About Women in Insurance

Women In Insurance (Qld) Inc is a not-for-profit organisation formed to provide a forum for professionals in the insurance industry to:

  • Enhance the position of women in the insurance industry through personal and professional development courses, seminars and activities

  • Facilitate networking opportunities

  • Provide opportunities for members to develop their personal and professional goals

  • Allow members to contribute to the future of the insurance industry

  • Provide access to papers on insurance related topics

  • Provide a forum for the promotion, development and debate of insurance issues

About Our Committee

President - Allison Radcliffe

Allison is a Senior Associate in the Brisbane office of HWL Ebsworth's National Transport Group.  Allison holds a Masters of Law and Juris Doctor from the Unversity of Queensland, as well as a Bachelor of Science and Postgraduate Diploma of Marine Studies.Allison's practice focuses on all aspects of transport law including road transport, aviation, maritime and general commercial litigation.  Allison acts for a wide range of domestic and international clients including insurers / underwriters, brokers, airlines, shipowners and transport companies, providing advice and conducting claims arising from cargo, personal injuries and related liability claims.

Erin is a Senior Associate at Gadens Lawyers, working in the firm's Insurance, Infrastructure and Risk group.  She has over nine (9) years experience in acting for insurers and commercial clients in dealing with personal injury, property damage and recovery claims, as well as 'front end' insurance work, including the drafting of policy wordings and liability and risk manuals.

Joanne is the Manager of Forensic Accounting at HLB Mann Judd. Joanne is a Certified Practicing Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters in Forensic Accounting. Joanne is responsible for the preparation of expert accounting reports for the quantification of Business and Personal losses as a result of insurable events.

Connie is a Certified Practising Accountant with over 14 years experience, 11 of those specialising in forensic accounting. Her experience includes providing assistance on family law and commercial matters including assessments of business valuations and economic loss.  In addition Connie has undertaken other forensic accounting engagements such as tracing of funds and reconstruction of accounts.  Connie has recently launched her own forensic accounting practice in the Northern Suburbs of Brisbane providing advice prior and post appointment of your accounting expert in addition to traditional accounting expert services.   Connie holds a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy), Queensland University of Technology (1996), Certified Practicing Accountant (2000), Graduate Certificate in Applied Finance and Investment, Securities Institute (2004) and Public Practice Certificate (2011).

 

Functions Coordinator - Amanda Cann

Amanda is a solicitor with BarryNilsson Lawyers.  Amanda practises exclusively in insurance litigation, with a focus on public liability claims. She manages and advises on both litigated and Personal Injury Proceeding Act claims and also provides advice on complex  indemnity and coverage issues. Since her admission as a solicitor in 2007, Amanda has continued to develop a specialisation in defending claims involving local authorities, occupiers of licensed premises, shopping centres and construction companies.

Allison is an Associate with Carter Newell Lawyers, working in property and injury liability.  Allison’s experience includes acting in personal injuries and product defect claims and acting in and advising on commercial litigation issues including policy indemnity disputes and private nuisance claimsAllison advises insurers and corporate insureds on indemnity and liability issues, risk management and workplace safety matters as well as mediating and conferencing claims and litigation of matters.

In 2004 Analea Graduated from Sydney university and commenced her first role as a Rehabilitation Counsellor at an Occupational Rehabilitation Company specialising in complex Workers Compensation claims. In 2005 she secured a role as a Claims Officer with QBE Sydney in their Workers Compensation department, dealing with Brokers, Employers, Insured  persons and a variety of Health professionals, with a focus on returning Injured workers back into their previous work environment or a new employer. In 2010 she relocated to Queensland and secured a position in the Liability Claims team at the QBE Queensland office, specialising in personal injury and complex property claims.  Since commencing her career in Insurance 5 years ago she has gained a variety of skills and her experience has enabled her to be a valuable addition to the liability team at QBE and within the Insurance Public liability sector. After completing her Masters In Business, Analea accepted a role as an Account Manager with St Andrews Insurance who specialise in Credit protection products and contracted by Vero Insurance as their representative within the Financial Services industry. The dual role has enable Analea to expand her knowledge and experience in General Iansurance as well as the Financial Services industry.

Ann is currently an Underwriting Manager with CGU Insurance overseeing the Australia wide farm scheme for AON Risk Services.  Ann has been with CGU for 13 years and has held many roles and worked in various rural areas in Queensland. Initially starting her career in Townsville in 1997 as Receptionist she has since held roles such as Underwriter, Territory Underwriter, Team Leader, Farm Senior Underwriter for Queensland and her current role AON Rural Manager. Ann has completed her Diploma of Financial Services, Certificate 4 Frontline Management and Certificate 3 in Business and is a Senior Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Insurance Institute (ANZIIF).

Frances Davis is the Senior Property Underwriter for CGU Insurance and has been with CGU in Brisbane for three years. Frances began her insurance career in 1980 with QBE in Darwin as a domestic underwriter.  She then moved back to Canberra and continued working for QBE until moving to a Broking firm and worked as a Broker before returning to Darwin in 1988.  Frances stayed in D
arwin a further 17 years working in several roles in the insurance industry both in Underwriting and Broking. She had a couple of career breaks during this period and bought a restaurant and catering company. Frances is a Senior Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Insurance Institute (ANZIIF) as well as a Certified Industry Professional (CIP).

Ashley is a partner of Norton Rose and leads the insurance practice group in Brisbane.  He represents insurance companies and self insurers. Ashley joined Deacons (now Norton Rose)  in 1998 and is the author of ‘Pre- Court Personal Injuries Procedure in Queensland’, the first book in Queensland dealing with the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002, and a contributing author to several insurance publications.  He has served on various working groups aimed at reforming personal injuries legislation.  He is a Member of the Litigation and Rules Section, of the Queensland Law Society, and a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Queensland for the subject 'Insurance & Risk Management'.


 
Committee Member -  Kim Love

Kim joined the insurance industry in 1988.  During that time she has spent majority of this time in the claims arena with positions in General and Life Insurance with various companies including Colonial Insurance.  Kim is heavily involved in the MYIFreemans mentoring and quality programs and has played a role in the organisations response to major catastrophes such as Cyclone Larry, Victorian Bushfires, Mackay Floods, Melbourne and Perth Storms.  Kim has a Certificate IV in Financial Services and is currently studying her Diploma in Management.  Prior to joining the insurance industry Kim worked in the Banking and Finance sector and brings this knowledge and experience to her current role with MYIFreemans.  Kim is the current Office Manager for the Gold Coast region and remains heavily involved in internal quality programs well as MYIFreemans internal mentoring program.

Fiona is a Special Counsel with Holman Webb Lawyers Brisbane. Fiona holds a Bachelor of Laws degree with Honours completed at the Queensland University of Technology in 1997. She is admitted to practice as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia. Fiona’s practice over the last 10 years has involved various legal positions in Australia and London including in-house advisory for a major global insurer, focussing at all times on litigation, particularly insurance litigation and dispute resolution.

Susan is a Commercial Insurance Broker at Queensland Insurance Services and works with her clients to put in place insurance programs relevant to their individual needs. Susan initially joined the insurance industry with Mercantile Mutual in 1999 as a claims officer and through the Mercantile Mutual / QBE joint venture, she was able to develop her career through positions as an eBusiness Co-ordinator and a Business Consultant. Susan's last role was that of an Account Manager in Queensland for QBE before joining QIS as a Broker in 2007. In August 2009, Susan became a shareholder of QIS.Susan is a Senior Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Insurance Institute (ANZIIF) as well as a Certified Industry Professional (CIP).

Nicola began her career in insurance working as a broker in early 2007 whilst completing a Masters in Insurance and Risk Management. Later, Nicola commenced practice as a solicitor in 2009, accepting a position with Moray & Agnew Lawyers within the firm’s general insurance group. Nicola practices in most areas of defendant insurance litigation, with a particular focus on public and product liability and professional indemnity claims. Nicola regularly advises clients on policy coverage, quantum, insured’s liability, dual insurance and contractual indemnity issues and frequently represents her clients in alternative dispute resolution processes, such as mediations and settlement conferences. Nicola’s previous career as an insurance broker has contributed to her in depth policy knowledge and unique appreciation of the complexities of multi-layered insurance programs and policy placement procedures.


Committee Member - Gabrielle Baumer

Gabrielle Baumber has been with Ansvar Insurance for over 2 years.  In her capacity as Business Development Manager, Gabrielle is a key contact for brokers and intermediaries in Brisbane North and QueenslandCountry areas.  Established and respected in her field, Gabrielle has over 25 years experience in the Insurance industry working in various facets including broking, underwriting and business development. Gabrielle has firsthand experience with natural disasters and an understanding of the devastation they cause.  She was on the ground immediately after Cyclone Larry to provide assistance and support to those affected. Gabrielle has recently completed her Diploma of Management through Deakin University, is a Senior Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Insurance Institute (ANZIIF) and also a Certified Insurance Professional.
