The Association for Women In Insurance (Qld) Inc is a not-for-profit organisation which was formed to enhance the position of women in the insurance industry through personal and professional development courses, seminars and activities. With an ever-growing membership of male and female industry professionals, the Association continues to work to:

  • Facilitate networking opportunities
  • Provide opportunities for members to develop their personal and professional goals
  • Allow members to contribute to the future of the insurance industry
  • Provide access to papers on insurance related topics

  • Provide a forum for the promotion, development and debate of insurance issues

  • Raise funds to enhance the associations’ objectives

Stephanie Huestis
Stephanie HuestisPresident
Having been a member of the WII committee since 2016, Steph was appointed to the position of President in 2020. Steph is a Special Counsel in the property and injury liability team at Carter Newell Lawyers, with a special interest in contractual liability and dual insurance issues. Although she predominantly performs claims management and advisory work under the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002 (Qld) regime and Australian Consumer Law, Steph has expanded her practice in recent years to the Victorian jurisdiction (including defending claims under the Wrongs Act 1958 (Vic)).
Kristi Riedel

Kristi has a broad commercial and civil practice. She has appeared both led and unled in in a range of trials, applications (including for urgent injunctive relief), coronial inquests and interlocutory hearings in both state (Queensland and New South Wales) and federal jurisdictions. She has also appeared at settlement conferences and mediations involving both smaller and large multi-party matters.

She has a particular interest, and experience, in all facets of insurance law, an area she practised in extensively as a solicitor prior to commencing at the Bar. She also has experience in the areas of insolvency, planning and environment law, defamation and administrative review.

Kristi was admitted as a solicitor in 2009, and was a Senior Associate within HWL Ebsworth’s insurance team prior to commencing practise as a barrister.

Angela Rowe

Angela is a Liability Underwriter at Epsilon Insurance. After a career in broking, Angela recently jumped the fence to focus on Underwriting. Ange has 17 years’ experience in corporate Insurance, and she particularly enjoys finding solutions for customers. Angela seeks challenges and embraces growth and development. Women in Insurance allows Ange to give back to the industry while working with like-minded people.
Stephanie Fox

Stephanie is a second generation Insurance Broker for Gallagher Insurance Brokers. With over fifteen years’ experience in the insurance industry and as a broking specialist, she prides herself in making sure her client’s understand the insurance risks associated with various industries. She specialises in risk management of large companies and assisting clients in navigating the insurance market and legislative requirements. Stephanie has an underpinning passion for mentoring and developing skills of up and coming brokers and now leads several teams of specialist brokers around the country. She also works heavily in the Business Improvement space, looking at ways to improve the client experience and business efficiencies.

Monica is lawyer and insurance manager at Downer. She has experience in a wide range of insurance matters, including claims arising from public liability incidents, product liability, property damage, workers’ compensation and motor vehicle accidents.
Danielle Davis

Danielle is a senior associate in the Professional Indemnity team at Barry Nilsson. Danielle practices in general insurance and commercial litigation with a particular focus on professional indemnity allied health claims. Danielle’s work involves providing assistance and advice to a range of insurers and organisations in respect of policy coverage, liability exposure, quantum calculations and settlement strategy, as well as assisting insureds with regulatory, personal injury and litigated claims. Danielle is an Indigenous Australian, a proud Kabi Kabi woman, with a passion for insurance and equality.
Rebecca Brewster

Rebecca is an authentic leader, highly motivated, and passionate insurance professional with over 18 years’ experience in the General Insurance industry. Having held a variety of operational and claims leadership roles with Insurers and Loss Adjusting firms, Rebecca’s current role is with Rizon Building, joining in 2020 as General Manager of Client Services. With her strong account management skills, knowledge, and understanding of client and customer needs, her teams are able to drive high performance, improve operational efficiencies and deliver quality customer outcomes.

Rebecca thrives in an environment where she can help grow and develop the people around her. She does this by providing strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring with a true desire to see others succeed. This is one of the reasons Rebecca has joined the Women In Insurance committee, so she can expand her reach and help others within the insurance community.

Rebecca holds a Senior Associate Membership with ANZIIF and continues to invest in her professional growth through studying a Master of Business Administration.

Abbey is a defendant insurance Associate at Gilchrist Connell and has been practicing in the insurance industry since 2018. Abbey practices across the public liability sphere primarily in Queensland including abuse claims working for major insurers and underwriters. She also undertakes professional indemnity matters and has a special interest in health and medical negligence claims drawing on her experience as a Registered Nurse of over a decade.

Marissa is a Special Counsel at DWF and has 14 years’ experience in the defence of dust disease and personal injury claims. In addition to her expertise in the broader WorkCover Queensland portfolio, her unique expertise has greatly enhanced DWF’s niche speciality in dust disease litigation and she regularly appears before Courts and Tribunals in both Queensland and New South Wales. Marissa has also practiced extensively in catastrophic injury and medical negligence claims as well as general plaintiff and defendant insurance litigation.

Marissa plays an active leadership role at DWF and is dedicated to the mentoring of junior staff, particularly women, assisting junior staff with their career plans, goals and objectives. She is a Committee Member of DWF’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and has been responsible for driving numerous D&I volunteering and fundraising initiatives. Marissa is also an actively involved in her local community, and has long-term involvement with many Queensland charities, including serving as a volunteer Team Leader for Wesley Mission’s Red Bag Appeal annually in their Christmas drive.

Meaghan Johnson

Meaghan is an experienced commercial construction risks manager who holds ANZIIF (Senior Assoc.) CIP status as a result of demonstrated expertise. Meaghan is currently studying to attain her Juris Doctor degree with the goal of practicing in commercial litigation following admission.

Meaghan currently works as a Client Manager with the Honan Insurance Group, supporting construction professionals with their complex risk profiles and insurance strategies, and has a keenness for professional indemnity and Directors and Officers errors & omissions placements. Prior to her client-facing role, Meaghan spent 6 years in-house managing the insurance programs of engineering and construction projects across Australia and New Zealand on behalf of one of the globes largest and most-recognised engineering and consulting services firms, AECOM.

Megan is a Senior Associate at Colin Biggers & Paisley Lawyers. She has over 5 years’ experience in the defence of personal injury litigation in the areas of workers compensation, public liability, institutional risk and liability and dust diseases. Megan has experience acting for a wide range of clients operating in various industries such as education, aged and disability care, retail, manufacturing, transport, logistics, labour hire, mining, construction, hospitality and not-for-profit services.

Megan is actively involved with the Colin Biggers & Paisley foundation by regularly volunteering with the foundation’s supported charities and providing pro bono legal services. Megan is a former president of Queensland Young Lawyers and was a committee member on the Law Council of Australia’s young lawyers committee in 2022.

Nadine has a degree in Law and joined Crawford in 2008, working as a Loss Adjuster in various teams before moving into Business Development and Key Client Management 6 years ago.

With nearly two decades of experience in insurance, personal injury, and compensation law, Ryan now leads the team at plaintiff firm, Best Injury Lawyers. The majority of Ryan’s career has been spent defending a broad range of personal injury and property damage claims for Australian and international insurers. Before founding Best Injury Lawyers, he was special counsel at Carter Newell having worked in their Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane offices.

Ryan still remains active in the insurance industry and has previously been on the AILA committee and Pride in Law committee. Ryan has been recognised in Doyles Guide as a leading work injury compensation lawyer, motor vehicle accident lawyer, and public liability lawyer.
